The National Zoo Debuts One Of The First Solar-Powered Carousels

You are here

This Monday, the National Zoo in Washington, D.C., opened one of the world’s first solar-powered carousels to visitors.

The Conservation Carousel, besides having very ornate, hand-carved animals, has a net-zero impact on the Zoo’s energy consumption. It runs entirely off of its 162 solar panels. It even diverts excess power back to the zoo.

We went out and took some pictures for you. If you're in the area, we highly encourage taking a trip to the National Zoo to see it for yourself!
