The Solar Energy Research & Education Foundation (SEREF) is a non-profit research organization affiliated with SEIA, has been dedicated to advancing the use of solar energy as a clean, sustainable, cost-effective way to meet the world's energy needs. By providing access to up-to-date information, detailed research, and innovative policy analysis, SEREF empowers the public, business leaders, elected officials, researchers, and others to become involved in the process of shaping our shared energy future.

Our vision for the future is one in which a renewable energy economy is built using the power of the sun. This future will ensure greater energy independence, help address global climate change, and contribute hundreds of thousands of jobs and billions of dollars in investment to the new green economy.
Our Mission
Since 1977, SEREF's mission has been to promote the use of solar energy as a clean, renewable, environmentally sustainable way to help meet the world's energy needs. Through research, education, and collaboration, we work to rapidly expand the uptake of solar energy technologies and encourage the policy and market innovations needed to develop and grow the renewable energy economy.
We are the leading analytical and charitable organization for solar energy. By applying our unique expertise in the field we conduct targeted, reliable research, develop and disseminate educational material on solar energy, support on-the-ground projects, and build strong and diverse partnerships that maximize our impact.
SEREF is a non-partisan, 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
Past Success
For more than 30 years, SEREF has successfully implemented numerous research and educational projects. Below are just a few examples:
- Quantified the Economic Impacts of Renewable Energy Incentives in 2009: Measured the economic impacts of extending federal renewable energy incentives for one year. The study found that a one-year extension would support 116,000 jobs and $19 billion in investment in 2009. Download the report here.
- Rural electrification in Peru: Deployed six solar-hybrid power systems in two rural communities in the Amazon region of
- Solar and Renewable Energy Trainings in the Caribbean: Presented a series of workshops that trained hotel owners, operators, and engineers to better manage energy, conduct energy audits, and implement conservation efforts.
