FAQs

Q: Do PV panels only work in "sunny" places like California or Hawaii?
A: No, PV works across the whole country. In fact, the second leading state for PV installations is New Jersey.

Q: If I have a school report to do on solar energy, who can I contact for assistance?
A: The Department of Energy Solar Program

Q: Where can I find information about solar incentives in my state?
A: SEIA advocates on the federal level and does not engage on state activities. The North Carolina Solar Center maintains the excellent Database of State Incentives for Renewables & Efficiency which tracks state incentives.

Q: How does taking the federal ITC and the solar incentives in my state affect the tax basis for either credit?
A: SEIA is unable to give tax advice. Please contact an accountant or tax attorney in your state.

Q: Can I donate to SEIA?
A: Yes, you can but because we are a 501(c)(6), your donation, while appreciated, is not tax deductible. You can make a tax-deductible donation to the Solar Energy Research and Education Foundation (SEREF), a 501(c)(3).

Q: As an individual unassociated with a company but passionate about solar, can I join SEIA?
A: No. SEIA is a trade association of companies and at this time we do not have individual memberships. However, individuals who are passionate about solar issues can sign up and Join the Pro-Solar Community.

Q: Does SEIA have any conferences?
A: Yes, we run the Solar Power Conference with the Solar Electric Power Association. Additionally, we recently hosted the inaugural PV America show in Philadelphia. See the Meetings and Events page for the Solar Calendar.

Q: I am interested in working in the solar industry. Where can I find solar jobs?
A: Visit our Solar Jobs page.

Q: Can you recommend any companies who sell and install solar panels?
A: As the national trade association with a large membership, we cannot recommend an individual company. However, you can search through our public directory for companies which operate in your geographic area. We highly recommend that you make sure that any company you work with is a SEIA member and has therefore signed our Code of Ethics.
