Research & Development at DOE
Department of Energy (DOE)-supported research and development helps bring new solar technologies to market. The DOE funds research on myriad solar-related activities, such as the production of thin-film solar panels, glass coatings used in concentrator tubes for CSP applications, and solar water heating to reduce energy usage in new and retrofit buildings. DOE's goal is to bring the cost of solar power in line with that of traditional fossil fuels by 2015.
SEIA works to increase funding for DOE's solar programs through the Congressional Appropriations process. For more on that effort, see Appropriations.
