U.S. A "SLEEPING GIANT" FOR SOLAR ENERGY |
Extension of Federal Tax Policy Vital to
Realizing Economic Potential of Solar
Dr. Alex Marker, a research fellow for SCHOTT Solar, today provided expert testimony to the Commission on Security and Cooperation Europe (U.S. Helsinki Commission) regarding the economic impact of a robust solar industry in the U.S. "Renewable energy is domestic energy. Domestic energy not only means jobs for Americans, but it means reducing our dependence upon politically unstable regions of the world. Renewable energy is as much about energy security as it is about reducing greenhouse emissions and creating thousands of new jobs each year," said Marker. "We have the opportunity today to address the challenge of global warming while also growing our economy. All we need to do is harness the power of the sun."

Mr. Friedman makes the case that Congress should invest in clean energy now and scolds Clinton and McCain for supporting a summertime fuel-tax holiday. "Why waste tax dollars in the gas tank instead of investing in innovation?" Link to his Apr. 30 opinion column and the Silicon Valley leaders' letter below. |

RESCH ON FOX BUSINESS NEWS: RESPONDING TO BUSH CLIMATE CHANGE SPEECH |
|
"We'd rather see a market that allows clean energy technologies, like solar and wind, to compete ... I'm a firm believer in free markets ... Once you set the rules and the timetable in order to achieve those targets, the free market is absolutely going to hit those. And, more importantly, we're going to see substantial economic growth in this country. So, rather than viewing climate change as something that is going to set us back economically, I think it's a great opportunity for this country to create clean tech jobs and put our economy back on track for the 21st Century." |
