Sonnenbatterie announced an all-in-one residential PV and storage system for $10,645. The price includes a 2 kilowatt-hour eco 2 Sonnenbatterie battery, a German-made PV panel, an inverter, an intelligent control system and 19 percent sales tax (called value added tax or VAT in Europe). The only cost not included is installation, since this varies according to location. Philipp Schröder, Sonnenbatterie’s managing director, told GTM a “low-end” installation cost could be in the region of $745, including VAT.
SunEdison Inc. has signed 20-year power purchase agreements (PPAs) with Los Angeles County for 6.2 MW of solar energy. The electricity will be used for nine government facilities. SunEdison will build solar parking canopies at many of the locations. "By signing a long-term agreement with guaranteed pricing, L.A. County will save millions of dollars while dramatically reducing its exposure to rising utility rates," says Sam Youneszadeh, SunEdison's regional general manager of its western U.S. solar business.

NextEra Energy Inc. plans to invest $100 million in energy-storage systems over the next year to back up its fleet of solar and wind energy plants. NextEra is the world’s biggest producer of wind and solar power, and will use the battery systems to manage energy fluctuations caused by cloudy weather and lulls in the wind, Jim Robo, chief executive officer of the Juno Beach, Florida-based company, said Tuesday at an analyst conference. Power companies are showing more interest in storage, especially batteries, which are becoming cheaper.
