SEIA Applauds Introduction of SUN Act in Senate

WASHINGTON, D.C. – To support the financing of community solar projects, Senator Mark Udall of Colorado today introduced the bipartisan Solar Uniting Neighborhoods (SUN) Act, which SEIA President and CEO Rhone Resch applauded:

“If approved, Senator Udall’s legislation would allow Americans who work together as a community to employ solar to receive the same tax advantages as individual homeowners and businesses. This is an imaginative and innovative approach to expanding the use of clean solar energy nationwide.

“Under the SUN Act, neighborhoods and towns will be able to establish community solar projects without being penalized under existing tax law. This would be an important step in reducing carbon emissions and mitigating the impact of climate change.

“We applaud Senator Udall on the introduction of his well thought-out plan and offer our support in his efforts. Today, solar is one of the fastest-growing industries in America, employing 120,000 Americans at more than 5,600 companies across the U.S. We believe the SUN Act will help to create even more American jobs, while reducing our nation’s dependence on fossil fuels.”
