WASHINGTON, D.C. - Following is a statement from Rhone Resch, president and CEO of the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA), in reference to an amendment to the Senate energy bill filed by Sens. Angus King (I-Maine) and Harry Reid (D-Nev.).

“We urge the Senate to adopt the King-Reid amendment and end a practice that subjects hardworking families and businesses who have invested in solar to potentially abusive rate hikes and new fees from monopoly utility companies. By blocking this amendment, utilities are trying to take away consumers' ability to make their own energy decisions.

“The King-Reid amendment would protect hundreds of thousands of Americans who have already invested in solar systems for their homes and businesses by preserving their rights to sell power back to the electric grid. Net metering is a smart, popular policy that helps stabilize the grid and saves all consumers money. It benefits the economy and the environment and it gives Americans more choice in where they get their energy."
