Sunrun has been awarded a Change Prize by the U.S. Department of Energy SunShot Initiative and will participate in the SunShot Prize: Race to 7-Day Solar. The competition launches Sept. 22 with a goal to motivate local governments, communities, solar companies and electric utilities to shorten the time it takes to get solar on a home to one week. Over the next 18-months, Sunrun will compete with four other teams to cut the permit-to-plug-in time for small PV systems up to 100 kilowatts.
The Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) is overseeing a pilot project to build nine net-zero energy homes in Fontana, California. SunEdison will supply advanced battery systems for the endeavor. Also partnering on the project are national homebuilder Meritage Homes, which is constructing the houses, the California Public Utilities Commission and local utility Southern California Edison. The research institute is leading the project to evaluate how net-zero energy homes that generate and store their own energy impact the local electricity grid.

Saying it reflects consensus from major clean energy, utility and environmental stakeholders while solidifying the Commonwealth’s commitment to 1,600 megawatts (MW) of solar energy by 2020, the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) and the New England Clean Energy Council (NECEC) today announced their support for proposed legislation for a new net metering and renewable energy incentive program that will result in hundreds of millions of dollars in cost savings for ratepayers.
