Ohio, which has a burgeoning non-residential solar market, has seen increased competition in the face of the state’s rising renewable portfolio standard goals and a 50% in-state procurement requirement. There are  167 companies in Ohio providing jobs in the solar industry. 56 of these companies have manufacturing facilities in the state. These companies manufacture goods across the supply chain- from the polysilicon that many photovoltaic panels are comprised of to the racking systems used to install solar panels.

The Ohio Statehouse, located in Columbus, houses the Ohio General Assembly and
the ceremonial offices of the Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Treasurer, and Auditor.

• Ohio ranks 16th nationally in cumulative installed solar capacity.  There is enough solar energy installed in the state to power 7,000 homes.
• In 2012, $61 million was invested in Ohio to install solar on homes and businesses.
• Average installed residential and commerical photovoltaic system prices in Ohio continue to fall--by 14% from last year. National prices have also dropped steadily--by 14% from last year and 31% since 2010.

Notable Solar Installations in Ohio

• Wyandot Solar Facility in Salem Township is a 12 MW solar photovoltaic system that came online in May 2010. First Solar supplied the 159,200 panels for this project, most of which were produced at their facility in Perrysburg.
• Napoleon Solar Facility is a 4 MW photovoltaic system that came online in 2012. The facility will generate enough clean energy to power 485 Ohio homes annually.
• The Campbell Soup Project in Napoleon was developed by BNB Renewable Energy Holdings. This 10 MW photovoltaic project came online in the summer of 2012.
• General Motors has installed 2 MW of solar photovoltaic systems on their locations in Parma and Toledo.
