Sun-rich Hawaii is on pace to have its best year ever for new solar installations, according to the recently released U.S. Solar Market Insight Report compiled by GTM Research and the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA).
SEIA Supports Legislation to Increase Use of Renewables by Federal Government
Saying it will “benefit both the economy and environment,” the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) has announced its strong support for legislation introduced by Sen. Mazie Hirono (D-Hawaii), allowing the General Services Administration (GSA) to enter into 30-year renewable energy power purchase agreements (PPA). The GSA is an independent agency which manages and supports the basic functioning of the federal government, including procurement. Under current law, only the U.S. military can enter into power purchase agreements for longer than 10 years.
Hawaii Solar Integration Study Shows Grid Reliability at High Penetration Rates
In its recent report on solar integration within the Hawaiian grid, the National Renewable Energy Laboratory finds that distributed and utility scale solar can be reliably accommodated by electrical grids on Maui and Oahu at penetration rates of 20%.
