Europe began requiring energy labels for fossil-based heating equipment in 2015, and, in response, solar thermal collector manufacturers there launched a voluntary energy label to call attention to their products’ carbon-free energy production. The “SOLERGY” label, issued through DIN CERTCO, depicts consumer information about the temperature level and related heating application as well as the approximate annual energy production of the collector across Europe.

WASHINGTON, DC - In a move that’s expected to increase the use of solar hot water systems across New York, the state’s Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) is expanding its Solar Hot Water Program statewide to include projects that displace hot water produced by heating oil, natural gas, propane and wood, as well as projects that displace electricity. After the announcement was made today, Rhone Resch, president and CEO of the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA), which strongly supported the expansion, applauded Gov.

In a move expected to spur solar heating and cooling (SHC) deployment across the state, the Massachusetts Legislature has approved SB 2214 and sent it to Governor Deval Patrick for his signature. This important legislation will allow renewable thermal technologies, including SHC, to be eligible for alternative energy credits under the Massachusetts Alternative Portfolio Standard (APS).
According to new industry data, a growing sector of the U.S. solar energy industry has reached a major milestone, with 5 million square feet of building-integrated solar air heating collectors now installed in North America. Rhone Resch, president and CEO of the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA), says these systems represent 250 megawatts (MW) of thermal energy and displace nearly 100,000 tons of CO2 each year from the atmosphere.

Saying it will help to create jobs and expand the use of clean, renewable energy in Massachusetts, the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA), along with its Solar Heating and Cooling Alliance (SHC), are urging the State Senate to adopt S. 1970, allowing renewable thermal technologies to qualify for the Alternative Portfolio Standard and provide a credit that incentivizes renewable thermal technologies.
