The Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) is the national trade association of the solar energy industry representing nearly 1,000 companies from around the world. Our mission is to build a strong solar industry to power America. We achieve that aim by supporting pro-solar policy at the federal and state level, developing cutting-edge industry research, and speaking as the voice of the solar industry to press and public.

The Solar and Storage Industries Institute (SI2) is the newly created charitable and education arm of SEIA. The institute aims to use policy research, public education initiatives, and direct outreach to policymakers to explain the benefits of clean energy and develop pathways to widespread solar and storage use. The assistant director position will be a SEIA employee who works on behalf of SI2 in its formative period.

Position Summary

The assistant director will report to and work closely with the Executive Director of SI2 to build this newly created not-for-profit. 
The position will primarily be responsible for assisting with fundraising and helping to manage the internal operations of SI2. These responsibilities include but are not limited to: preparing federal and private grant applications, maintaining a calendar of grant reporting and fundraising deadlines, managing multiple grant funded projects at once, ensuring research and project deliverables meet funder objectives and are executed on time.  
The position will also work closely with finance staff to report on expenditures against project budgets. The position must be comfortable working in a deadline-oriented environment and will take on additional management duties as SI2 grows.

Core Duties & Responsibilities

  • Preparing grant applications
  • Maintaining a calendar of grant reporting and fundraising deadlines
  • Managing a portfolio of policy research projects
  • Developing fundraising materials
  • Developing and managing project budgets
  • Executing contracts with external consultants and outside experts
  • Ensuring project and grant deliverables are met
  • Reporting on project expenditures 
  • Assisting the Executive Director prepare for and conduct meetings of the SI2 board of directors

Professional Experience, Education & Other Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree is required, MA preferred
  • 10 years’ experience
  • Excellent written / verbal communication skills
  • Strong budgeting and financial reporting skills
  • Knowledge of solar and storage industry issues, its various market segments and policy challenges
  • Self-motivated and ability to work as part of a small team at a growing organization
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to work under time pressure in a fast-paced environment

Working Conditions

The position will be remote and quarterly travel to Washington D.C. and other occasional meetings across the country is required.

Compensation Range

$80,000 - $100,000 annually, based on experience, and excellent benefits package.
