The Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) is the national trade association of the solar energy industry representing nearly 1,000 companies from around the world. Position Description

SEIA is seeking a director of communications to lead the organization’s media affairs and jointly run public relations campaigns. In this role, you will ensure that all aspects of SEIA’s external communications, from work with reporters and editors, to management of multimedia campaigns are carried out in a first-class manner and with the desired impact.

We are looking for a talented candidate who has at least seven years of public relations experience developing creative and engaging campaigns that will help the solar industry capitalize on its overwhelming public support. A polished writer, with an eye for detail, who can make a persuasive case will get strong consideration. Knowledge of the energy sector and how policy is made is a plus.

This person will work with staff and consultants and SEIA executives to ensure we are maximizing the impact of our communications at all levels. This position will report to the Vice President of Public Affairs.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Developing multimedia campaign strategies and executing on those strategies.
  • Helping field press inquiries and serving as a spokesperson
  • Working with the Chief Executive Officer to prepare for interviews, speeches and other public appearances.
  • Managing media relations consultants and staff, particularly on state-focused communications efforts
  • Drafting press releases, op-eds and other public facing communications
  • Preparing talking points, guidance and training for press interviews for senior staff and SEIA members
  • Identifying speaking opportunities for CEO/President
  • Working interdepartmentally and with members and partner organizations to develop messaging that supports SEIA’s strategic goals.

Qualifications

SEIA is seeking a dynamic individual to join our Communications team. Qualified candidates will possess:

  • A bachelor’s and preferably an advanced degree in communications, with knowledge of federal and state policy
  • Seven years of public relations experience, including at least three years running communications campaigns.
  • Proven writing skills, with samples of published works.
  • A creative approach to developing and leading communications campaigns
  • A record of leading targeted media campaigns and rollouts with results to show for it.
  • Experience managing people and advocacy campaigns is a plus
  • The ability to work effectively in a collaborative, team environment
  • A strong work ethic and customer-focused attitude in order to thrive in our fast-paced, team-oriented environment
  • Ability to shoot and edit videos for SEIA’s social media channels, email marketing efforts and various events preferred.
  • Computer literacy skills (Microsoft Office tools including Word, Excel and Outlook)
