Grid Modernization and Solar: What Are the Implications for the Future of Net Metering, Speedier Interconnection, and the Risk of Solar Fees?
At Solar Power International (SPI), SEIA will host the workshop Grid Modernization and Solar. Some of the country's largest solar markets are considering significant changes to how utility distribution systems are built and operated and the role that distributed energy resources play in building and operating those grids. After several years of high level work, efforts like the Reforming the Energy Vision initiative in New York and the Distribution Resources Planning proceeding in California are starting to "put the rubber to the road" with implications for solar businesses. This workshop will include experts from the solar industry, utilities, and technical experts to discuss some of the developments in leading states and their implications for solar businesses. The workshop will review what upgrades could help integrate more solar into the grid, and where solar and other distributed energy resources may be able to find new revenue opportunities for providing distribution services. The workshop will also explore how these efforts will impact the future of net metering, rate design, and interconnection.
