Press Release

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA), the national trade association for the U.S. solar energy industry, announced today that Black & Veatch is joining its board of directors, effective immediately.

Black & Veatch is a global employee-owned engineering, procurement, consulting and construction company with a range of solutions in power generation and delivery.

“It says a lot about the resilience and strength of our industry to be adding to our board amidst a global pandemic,” said Abigail Ross Hopper, president and CEO of SEIA. “It also says a lot about the value that SEIA provides and the strength of our leadership and vision for the industry. We look forward to working with this industry leader as we advocate for policies that help Americans rebuild with solar and emerge stronger from this crisis.”

Globally, Black & Veatch has implemented more than 100 GW of solar and wind energy, over 2,500 MWh+ of battery energy storage, and has deployed more than 700 distributed energy buildouts through its range of solutions from engineering services to EPC.

“Our clients across the centralized and distributed power industry are increasingly focused on growing their clean energy portfolios and solar power is clearly a significant part of this mix, said Mario Azar, President of Black & Veatch’s global power business and new SEIA board member. “SEIA’s focus on leading the transformation to a clean energy economy aligns well with our work and I look forward to working with the SEIA team to address many of today's new energy challenges and opportunities.”

As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the solar industry has already lost 72,000 jobs and continues to experience financing challenges associated with customer demand, tax equity markets and work stoppages. SEIA is advocating for policy that will allow the solar industry to put thousands of Americans back to work and help lead our nation’s economic recovery.
