The Atlanta Public Service Commission approved solar arrays to be built on two military sites. The Anniston Army Depot and the Fort Rucker Army Base will each receive a 10.6 MW array. Combined, the two systems will provide Alabama’s largest utility scale solar project to date. Alabama Power awarded Strata Solar the engineering, procurement, and construction contracts for the sites. Installation is expected to begin early next year. The addition of these projects will add over 20 MW of solar energy to Alabama’s renewable portfolio. North Carolina based Strata Solar has built several utility scale projects in the Southeast. This is the first project of this size Strata Solar has worked for Alabama Power.
