Position Description

The Communications Manager reports to the Senior Director of Communications and supports SEIA’s strategic communication efforts. The Communications Manager will play an important role in the organization’s media relations and social media activities and will help to implement state and federal advocacy campaigns.

SEIA relies on its communications and public affairs team to strengthen its message, expand its audience, and provide high-quality communication outcomes for its members. The Communications Manager will help SEIA expand its market opportunities, win policy battles, influence the national conversation on clean energy and climate change and reach the organization’s goals in the Solar+ Decade.

Core Duties & Responsibilities

  • Drafting and distributing SEIA’s daily clips digest and weekly newsletter.
  • Assisting with media relations, to include: creating media lists, drafting and distributing press releases, pitching news stories, fulfilling media requests, drafting interview prep documents, and coordinating press calls to support SEIA’s announcements and other proactive media engagement efforts.
  • Supporting state-level communication campaigns in order to maximize exposure of SEIA’s work in its priority states.
  • Supporting SEIA’s social media presence and creating engaging content for SEIA’s Instagram, Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn presence.
  • Drafting blog posts and other engaging content that highlights SEIA’s various campaigns and priority initiatives.
  • Assisting with tracking and analyzing the effectiveness of SEIA’s media and social media activities. 
  • Assisting with the development of graphics and video content in support of SEIA’s announcements, campaigns, and profile building activities.
  • Assisting with the administration of the PR Committee and other special member meetings, events, or workshops as needed.

Qualifications

  • 3 - 5 years of experience working in advocacy communications or journalism.
  • Strong writing skills and proven ability to communicate to a variety of audiences through social media, earned media, blog posts, web content, fact sheets etc.
  • Working knowledge of media relations and ability to work with the press.
  • Working knowledge of associations, the renewable energy industry, and the policymaking process.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, time management skills and the ability to multitask.
  • Ability to work under time pressure and in a fast-paced and team-oriented environment.
  • Experience working in content management systems like Drupal and Wordpress, content record management systems like Salesforce, event management platforms like Eventbrite, and the ability to quickly learn other programs and platforms as needed.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, SharePoint, and Google Docs, as well as the ability to quickly learn other programs and platforms as needed.
  • Working knowledge of design platforms like Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign and video editing programs like After Effects, Premier Pro, and Final Cut, is desired but not required.

Working Conditions

  • Work is in an office environment

Compensation Range

  • $68,000 - $72,000 annually
