Turning Solar Panel Recycling Woes into Industry Wins

Solar power is the most efficient, renewable and cost-effective source of electricity today and critical to our planet’s sustainability. But according to the market research firm Rystad Energy, solar PV waste will grow to 27 million tons annually by 2040. New NREL Research Shows Residential PV Adoption Timelines Improve Despite COVID-19 Pandemic

Residential PV projects in the U.S. typically require several weeks to several months from contract signing to operation. Integral to PV adoption timelines is the permitting, inspection, and interconnection (PII) processes administered by the local jurisdiction and utility. The PII process ensures safe and reliable system installation, but can be a major contributor to project timelines and costs. NREL has collected project-level data from 14 small-to-large installers; it contains approximately 337,000 projects from 2017-2021 and covers 10-25% of U.S.

Anticircumvention Update - Understanding Commerce’s Preliminary Decision

On December 1, the U.S. Department of Commerce (Commerce) determined that solar cell and module imports from Cambodia, Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam were circumventing the antidumping and countervailing duty (AD/CVD) orders on cell and module imports from China. Commerce also concluded, however, that four companies and specific products were exempt from the tariffs. Although this was not a worst-case scenario, it will still cause significant damage to the U.S. solar industry.
