Position Summary

The Southeast Regional Manager is responsible for the development and implementation of SEIA’s policies and positions in the dynamic and growing solar markets in the Southeast. The position reports through the Vice President of State Affairs and will work in close collaboration with other SEIA departments including Research, Communications and Membership.

The ideal candidate should have the desire and demeanor to build a strong network within the solar and clean energy industries and will have had professional exposure to solar power policy and/or markets, and be familiar with enabling technologies such as storage, demand response, distribution management systems and electric vehicles. In addition, some familiarity with event management, interactive workshops and online educational webinars is strongly preferred. The successful candidate must be able to build relationships and be a natural collaborator. He or she is able to manage project teams effectively and facilitate dialogue with both internal and external colleagues.

Core Duties & Responsibilities

  • Oversee SEIA’s regulatory and legislative activity in the Southeast region, developing policy positions and coordinating with members, policymakers, and other stakeholders across ~10 states, with a focus on 3-4 states
    • Manage the SEIA Southeast Committee and day-to-day activities in collaboration with member companies. This includes facilitating regular calls and meetings with SEIA members
    • Analyze and summarize regulatory filings and legislation in a concise way with an eye to industry impact or opportunity
    • Lead and participate in legislative and lobbying initiatives
    • Manage outside counsel, contract lobbyists and technical consultants
    • Collaborate with other associations, NGOs, key parties, stakeholders, and consultants
    • Participate as available in overall SEIA activities as time permits
  • Other potential duties and opportunities
    • Participate in management of SEIA Siting and Permitting Committee
    • Manage SEIA’s regional engagement in Southeast Market Reform issues
  • Successful candidates may be located in the Washington, D.C. area, or in Atlanta, GA, Raleigh, NC, or Richmond, VA. If based outside of Washington DC, the candidate will need to be able to successfully work remotely

Professional Experience, Education and Other Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree is required
  • 3-5 years of regulatory and/or legislative experience
  • Preference given to candidates with demonstrated experience in electricity/utility/renewables/generation sectors
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office tools, including Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to travel for up to 30% of time. Most travel will be in-region
  • Ability to manage challenging and diverse views of members
  • Self-starter – can work independently and remotely
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and is able to perceive when to lead and when to build consensus

  • Work is in an office environment
  • May be occasionally required to stand, walk or reach with arms
