Mike is SEIA’s Chief Business Officer (CBO). The CBO combines the roles of a chief administrative officer and the chief financial officer into a single role that oversees the day-to-day activities of the finance, human resources, administration, office management, and information technology departments.
Prior to joining SEIA, Mike served as the Chief of Staff and Senior Financial Officer for the Air Force Association – a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt membership organization promoting the importance of a dominant Air Force to our country’s national defense. Reporting to the President, Mike oversaw the operations of AFA’s 70+ full-time program and support staff and the organization’s $20 million annual operating budget. Mike has spent nearly his entire career serving the finance and operational needs of non-profit organizations, having served in lead finance and operational roles for a large telecommunications trade association, and before that a federally-fund educational foundation. Before transitioning into non-profit financial and organizational management, Mike spent more than eight years with a DC-based public accounting firm providing audit, tax, accounting and consulting services exclusively to non-profit organizations.
Mike is a certified public accountant (CPA), and has achieved the certified association executive (CAE) designation from the American Society of Association Executives. He holds a bachelors of business administration degree in accounting from the College of William and Mary and a masters degree in organizational management from the George Washington University. Mike, who is originally from the Boston area, lives in Northern Virginia with his wife and daughter where they enjoy biking, hiking and just about anything else that allows them to enjoy a sunny day.
