Aurora, Colorado Mayor Steve Hogan and Congressman Mike Coffman joined executives from Walgreens, XCEL energy, and SolarCity Monday to cut the ribbon on a new solar system installed on a drug store in Aurora, Colorado. This is the first of 22 Colorado stores that will receive solar panels. Walgreens has installed solar systems on 134 stores nation-wide. The Colorado project is being built by SolarCity (NASDAQ:SCTY), a California based solar company.

At the ribbon cutting ceremony, Walgreen’s Vice-President of Marketing Howard Atlas said that by the time the panels are installed on the 22 Colorado stores, Walgreens will have solar systems on 150 drugstores nation-wide. He said that Walgreens is dedicated to health and wellness and that the company has determined environmental sustainability is an important component to health.
