DRAFT letter in response to the Department of Energy’s Draft Recommendations from the Joint Outreach Team effort to bring improvements in the Western Area Power Administration (Western) transmission planning and efficiencies.
FAC Update: Congress Passes “Fiscal Cliff” Bill
After weeks of heated negotiations, both the House and the Senate passed The American Taxpayer Relief Act of 2012. This legislation (1) extends many tax cuts which expired at the end of 2012 and (2) avoids the mandatory spending cuts which would have taken effect on January 3, 2013. While there was widespread support for the bill in the Senate (passed 89-8), the vote in the House was much more mixed, with a majority of House Republicans voting against the measure (final vote was 257-167). Below is a summary of provisions which affect the solar industry.

SEIA Model Permitting Legislation Presented at ALEC
SEIA presented this legislation at ALEC's July 2012 Conference. The purpose of the legislation is to streamline the permitting process for all distributed generation energy technologies. It did not pass out of ALEC's Energy Subcommittee. It also did not pass when a vote was called in ALEC's Energy, Environment and Agriculture Task Force Meeting.
