Since the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) passed in 2022, solar and storage manufacturers are planning record amounts of new manufacturing operations in the United States. While the IRA is critical to the development of new domestic manufacturing facilities, there are other considerations that companies must take into account when planning these facilities. New manufacturers now have questions about state policies and programs, including state incentives, workforce development, and permitting.

New NREL Research Shows Residential PV Adoption Timelines Improve Despite COVID-19 Pandemic

Residential PV projects in the U.S. typically require several weeks to several months from contract signing to operation. Integral to PV adoption timelines is the permitting, inspection, and interconnection (PII) processes administered by the local jurisdiction and utility. The PII process ensures safe and reliable system installation, but can be a major contributor to project timelines and costs. NREL has collected project-level data from 14 small-to-large installers; it contains approximately 337,000 projects from 2017-2021 and covers 10-25% of U.S.

Anticircumvention Update - Understanding Commerce’s Preliminary Decision

On December 1, the U.S. Department of Commerce (Commerce) determined that solar cell and module imports from Cambodia, Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam were circumventing the antidumping and countervailing duty (AD/CVD) orders on cell and module imports from China. Commerce also concluded, however, that four companies and specific products were exempt from the tariffs. Although this was not a worst-case scenario, it will still cause significant damage to the U.S. solar industry.
