The U.S. Department of Energy on Tuesday announced a slew of projects that will collectively receive about $60 million and work on making solar electricity more affordable.

The projects range from engineering new solar cells to figuring out a more efficient way to market, install and monitor a solar energy projects. The funding also will target efforts to help utilities manage the increasing amount of solar electricity flowing in and out of the electric grid.

Solar and Storage Industry Statement on New Fixed Charges on California Electric Bills

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Today the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) finalized rules requiring California residents to pay new monthly fixed charges on their electricity bills. Households that qualify for the California Alternate Rates for Energy (CARE) and Family Electric Rate Assistance (FERA) programs will see $6 and $12 monthly charges, respectively, while all other customers will pay $24.15 monthly.

Virginia Enacts Law to Strengthen Energy Choice with Third-Party Solar Financing

RICHMOND, VA — The Virginia General Assembly has officially passed House Bill 1062/Senate Bill 271, allowing rooftop solar leasing with a third-party in Virginia and strengthening energy choice for customers. The law becomes effective on July 1, 2024.
